Treatment of Ocular Disease |
We are always
checking your eyesight to ensure
proper vision, but your total eye health
is extremely important to us and we do
everything we can to make sure you
receive the best personalized care
possible. Our optometrists are trained
and licensed to diagnose and treat
diseases of the eye. We prescribe
topical medications for infections,
inflammations, pain, dry eyes, glaucoma
and allergies. |
Did you know that your eyes reveal
insight regarding your overall health?
In fact, your eyes provide early
detection for many different diseases
that can affect more than just your
vision!
That's why we routinely
perform tests that look for signs and
symptoms of many different diseases, not
just eye diseases, during your regularly
scheduled eye health evaluation.
Illnesses that may be discovered early
on through signs in your eyes include
high blood pressure, diabetes, high
cholesterol and even heart disease.
That is why it is so important to
leave your total eyecare to
professionals. We feel it's important to
review your family history then monitor
and watch for signs of possibly
inherited diseases or illnesses as
another precaution.

Co-Management with Ophthalmologists
Sometimes, even when you do everything
right, we still discover a problem. The
vast majority of ocular diseases present
slowly and with little warning. It is
vital that care be delivered at the most
opportune time. As a result, the
optometrists at Cold Lake EyeCare have
cultivated an excellent network of
specialists. We work in conjunction with
your family physician and other medical
specialists such as rheumatologists,
pediatricians, neurologists, plastic
surgeons and dermatologists as well as
many ophthalmological sub-specialists
including retinal, glaucoma, refractive,
corneal, strabismus, oculoplastics, and
neuro-ophthalmology.
Cold
Lake EyeCare has embraced the benefits
of teleophthalmology via Secure
Diagnostic Imaging in conjunction with
the Royal Alexandra Hospital in
Edmonton. Through our retinal
photography and the internet we have the
ability to send retinal photos for
evaluation in Edmonton. We can usually
have the evaluation within 48 hours.
This prevents countless trips to the
city for our patients. If a visit to a
specialist is needed, specialized
diagnostic testing and treatment can be
booked for the same day which reduces
the number of visits required. In some
cases we can continue to monitor your
condition in Cold Lake solely by using
this program. |
